Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human. – Anthony Robbins
Alive and Free!
When it is “no longer I who live”, I am truly alive!
“… that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20
“I am committed to name no virtue except in HIM;
to preach no commandment except faith in HIM;
no other justification but that HE atoned for us;
no other sanctification but the privilege to sin no more;
no other happiness but to be near HIM;
no other life but in HIM.”

Fun Facts
A study has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle. For example: if she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged & masculine features. However, if she is menstruating or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth & a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire…
Don’t Give Up
One day I decided to quit… quit my job, my relationship, and my spirituality… I wanted to quit my life. I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
“God,” I asked, “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”
His answer surprised me… “Look around”, He said. ”Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”
“Yes”, I replied.
“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo, He said.
“In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit.
In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit,” He said.
“Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant… But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.
It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.”
He asked me. “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots”.
“I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.”
“Don’t compare yourself to others.” He said.
“The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful.”
“Your time will come”, God said to me. “You will rise high.”
“How high should I rise?” I asked.
“How high will the bamboo rise?” He asked in return. “As high as it can?” I questioned. “Yes.” He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”
I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you.
Never, Never, Never Give up!

When Life Gets Heavy
How can one simple truth have such a profound impact? Recently I heard a revolutionary statement and it spun my world around in more ways than I can count. Oh, the joy and freedom I have found. Streams of peace and strength now flow where rivers of worry and troubled waters once overwhelmed me.
The secret is found in the principle laid out in Matthew 11:
Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Trade our heavy burdens and concerns for His easy, light burden!
Life is hard and full of burdens isn’t it? So many things…
- Pressing down on us
- Stealing our time
- Pulling things from us
- Stretching our finances
- Drowning our dreams
- Squeezing every drop of our energy
- Fighting for our allegiance
- Sucking the joy from our souls
A phenomenal thing happens when we carry our bulky load into the presence of God and we leave with a lighter yoke. But how does it work?
- It is birthed in faith as we learn to truly TRUST
- It is supernatural ~ more real than what we can see or feel
- It is a source of amazing joy and peace
Here is the miracle:
We go into His presence with a very heavy multi-faceted burden and leave with an undeserved lighter one. He promises that His burden is light. Basically, His easy burden requires us to simply LOVE one another. Lighter than what I have been carrying? Definitely! Sounds like a smart trade to me!
The trick is LETTING GO and letting God! He is way more capable of bearing our burdens than we are anyway. Oh, the beautiful things He longs to work in our lives. He is Faithful, Wise, and Active!
Try it and see… Go to a quiet place. Verbally tell Him all of the things that weigh heavily upon you. Even better, write them down. Lay them at His feet. In exchange, take from Him His light burden of love and slip it into your backpack. With a bounce in your step at the ease and joy of your new load, you will find yourself inhaling rejuvenating breaths of newfound freedom and peace.
“Cast all your cares upon Him, because He cares about you.” 1 Peter 5:7
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will support you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
“May the Lord be praised! Day after day He bears our burdens; God is our salvation. Selah” Psalm 68:19
May this simple truth radically impact your life and the lives of those you touch!

A Fish With Wings
It was once said, “Sinners cannot live in heaven. They would be out of their element. Sooner could a fish live upon a tree than the wicked in paradise” (Charles Haddon Spurgeon). The only way they will ever be able to endure heaven is to be born again and become new creatures with pure hearts able to fully enjoy the presence of God, His holy angels, and the redeemed.
Well, that leaves us in quite a pickle doesn’t it? Fish can’t fly. Even if they could, they would be unable to sustain life trying to breathe air through their gills. Furthermore, how would they perch upon a branch? One can only balance for so long before falling. It is inevitable.
The trick, then, is in transforming the “fish” into a “bird”. Utterly impossible by our own power or by any human invention. Fortunately for us, there is a God who specializes in the impossible.
The Almighty Creator supernaturally combines our faith with His abundant love and Christ’s victory over sin and the grave. Then, as He pours it over our lives we begin to develop lungs that suck in the precious breaths of eternal life. Our scales begin to fall away as we learn truths from His wonderful Word. Fins give way to wings by which we can finally soar in new life carried by the wind of His Spirit. Approaching the tree we find He has given us feet to stand firm and confident in the newness of this transformed life.
Simply…Only God can grow wings on a fish.
Even more glorious, He rejoices to do so!
“If anyone is in Christ,
He is a new creation;
Old things have passed away,
And look, new things have come”
2 Corinthians 5:17
Hope is Confident

Hope is defined as the joyful and confident expectation of good.
Picture this: Thanksgiving dinner is cleared. The men are enjoying the football game and the women have retreated for some much needed respite and significant “girl talk”. Lovely! Now, pan your focus to the children who have enthusiastically gathered in the backyard to expound on the one and only thing that will consume their every waking thought for the next 30 days. The very hope of their souls – what they live and breathe for now is… the joyous expectation of Christmas morning!
Every moment, every circumstance, every task from that time on is both endurable and joyous because on that blessed morning they confidently know “good” stuff is coming! They have no doubt! Their very existence exudes eager hearts, brightened eyes, and undaunted smiling faces.
That is hope! Often we down-size the meaning of the word hope to mere “wishing.” But Scripture is clear that hope is not that fragile. Hope, according to Hebrews 6:19, is the ANCHOR of our souls. Now that is something strong and secure!
Let’s consider for just a moment what an anchor does:
- An anchor keeps you from drifting (tied to Christ) when the water of life is calm.
- An anchor keeps you steady (at peace) when the wind and waves of life threaten to overwhelm you.
- An anchor keeps you where you need to be when life capsizes you (until help comes).
So, if hope is the joyful expectation of good and it is the anchor of our souls we have a lot to rejoice about! We can have the same full-fledged hope children experience at Christmastime every single day as we journey through this life because we know He is with us! We are never alone!
We can joyfully expect good because He is our help, our light, our life, our guide! We, too, can endure every moment, every circumstance, and every responsibility because we have hope. We, too, can have no doubts! God is faithful and true!
Ultimately, we can have the same thrill of hope as we experience the joyful and confident expectation of eternity in perfection with the Lover of our souls.
“`I assure you,’ He said, ‘unless you are changed and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child – this one is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.’” Matthew 18:3-4
Shall we become a little childlike in the area of hope and walk through life with eager hearts, bright eyes, and smiles on our faces as an expression of this very precious anchor of hope within us?
I think I will give it a try! And maybe, just maybe, I will stop by the playground and see how high I can swing.
“Blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8
Let Your Kingdom Come!
If I could choose my own boss, these are the things I would look for on his resume:
- Intelligent

- Kind
- Understanding
- Generous
- Caring
- Experienced
- Good
- Trustworthy
- Competent
- Strong
- Compassionate
Would you work for this guy? Sounds perfect doesn’t it? Too good to be true! Does this person even exist?
YES!
And the good news is that He is applying for the position. He wants to rule our lives. He wants to be our King. He is the BESTqualified to reign in our hearts because He is our Creator and the Lover of our souls. Name of the applicant? Jesus, the Servant King!
Hired!
So, what does that look like? How does that work? Well, Jesus called it a kingdom principle. We simply submit to His reign in our lives and we reap the benefits of being part of the kingdom of God. We get all the privileges of being in His kingdom:
- God’s protection
- God’s love
- Provision
- Joy
- Peace
- Security
- Abundance
- A Future and a Hope
- Cool perk: it is an eternal kingdom that no one can conquer!
“Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God will come, He answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming with something observable; no one will say, ‘Look here!’ or ‘There!’ For you see, the kingdom of God is within you.”
Luke 17:20-21
The kingdom of God is the royal rule and reign of Jesus Christ
in the heart of every believer!
Jesus’ resume is much longer and infinitely more impressive the one listed above. How amazing is that?! It leads me to ask myself… What would my resume look like if I were to apply for the position of ruler of my heart? Is it as remarkable as God’s?
Why do I think I am more capable of ruling my life than the Lord of all? Crazy!
I think it is time for me to scoot over… no, better yet, I think it is time for me to get up and relinquish the throne of my life to the True King and just worship Him with a heart of thanksgiving!
Care to join me?

Be Quiet!
I have a quote written in my Bible that I never get totally out of my mind. I think of it often. I’m not even sure where I heard it first, but I would imagine it was in an indepth Bible study that I was participating in at the time.
“You cannot win a war if you don’t understand you are in a war. You cannot conquer your enemy if you don’t recognize your enemy.”
The devotional book that I used this morning had us reading in Luke 4 and seeing how Jesus responded when He found Himself being confronted by a demon possessed man. In the reading, we were asked to list characteristics that we know to be true about satan. In light of the quote above and the activity in which we were asked to participate, I know what the goal was — the thing God wanted me to do today. He wants me to be wise and know my enemy, to know what I am up against. Not only that, but I need to know the enemy’s schemes and be prepared to stand up against them when I am faced with them.
I jotted down the things you might expect. Satan is a liar, the Father of lies. He is cunning. He is evil. He is seeking out people to destroy. He is corrupt. He is jealous, for the sole reason he fell in the first place was because he wanted to be like God. He is malicious. But the last thing I wrote down was that satan, our enemy, is noisy.
In Luke 4, the first rebuke that Jesus gave the demons that attacked Him was, “Be quiet!” (Luke 4: 35) And every translation that I have turned to has made it a point to suggest that Jesus was none too happy and didn’t politely ask the demon to cease from being noisy. The NIV says that Jesus spoke “sternly” to the demon.
How has the enemy been noisy in your life? A Bible teacher I listened to the other day said that the enemy cannot destroy us, but he will do everything in his power to distract us.
In very difficult seasons of my life, I have experienced the noise of the enemy — his attempt to make himself greater or louder in my mind than anything that God would want me to hear.
In matters of insecurities, he screams, “You are nothing! You will never be anything! God can’t use someone like you! You aren’t talented enough. You aren’t pretty enough. You certainly aren’t spiritual enough!”
In matters of past failures and sin, he yells, “You’ve done it this time! God can’t forgive THAT!”
In matters of lack of trust he bellows, “You’re right — don’t trust him and don’t trust her! They don’t love you and will only hurt you. You do not need friends because friends will never do anything but turn their backs on you!”
In matters of service he says, “Goodness gracious! Whoever made you think you were equipped to do that? There are many others who way more talented and special. Just sit down. Let the professionals handle it!!”
I’m sure you can think of other countless examples of how the enemy has been a distraction from the truth of God in your life.
Learning from Christ’s example, we no longer have to listen to the enemy. We can tell him, if you will permit me to use a phrase that is “not nice” around our house, “SHUT UP!!” We have a heritage because of our life as believers in Jesus Christ. It is this,
“‘…no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 54:17)
We have the offensive weapon of the Sword of the Spirit that we not only wave in the enemy’s face, but we speak it from our mouth and refute everything that he uses to convince us that we are ill-equipped to do and unworthy to receive in Jesus’ Name!
It is time for the noise of the enemy to be silenced and the Voice of God to be heard in our lives. It’s time that we, in Beth Moore’s words, make the enemy sorry that he ever messed with us. It is high time for the Children of the Most High God to put our finger in his ugly face and tell him to BE QUIET!
Blessings,
Dori

I Choose
“It’s quiet. It’s early. My coffee is hot. The sky is still black. The world is still asleep. The day is coming. In a few moments the day will arrive. It will roar down the track with the rising of the sun. The stillness of the dawn will be exchanged for the noise of the day. The calm of solitude will be invaded by decisions to be made and deadlines to be met. For the next twelve hours I will be exposed to the day’s demands. It is now that I must make a choice. Because of Calvary, I’m free to choose. And so I choose…
I CHOOSE LOVE…
No occasion justifies hatred; no injustice warrants bitterness. I choose love. Today I will love God and what God loves.
I CHOOSE JOY…
I will invite my God to be the God of circumstances. I will refuse the temptation to be cynical…the tool of the lazy thinker. I will refuse to see people as anything less than human beings created by God. I will refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God.
I CHOOSE PEACE…
I will live forgiven. I will forgive so that I may live.
I CHOOSE PATIENCE…
I will overlook the inconveniences of the world. Instead of cursing the one who takes my place, I’ll invite him to do so. Rather than complain that the wait is too long, I will thank God for a moment to pray. Instead of clenching my fist at new assignments, I will face them with joy and courage.
I CHOOSE KINDNESS…
I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Kind to the rich, for they are afraid. And kind to the unkind, for such is how God has treated me.
I CHOOSE GOODNESS…
I will go without a dollar before I take a dishonest one. I will be overlooked before I will boast. I will confess before I will accuse.
I CHOOSE FAITHFULNESS…
Today I will keep my promises. My debtors will not regret their trust. My associates will not question my word. My wife will not question my love. And my children will never fear that their father will not come home.
I CHOOSE GENTLENESS…
Nothing is won by force. I choose to be gentle. If I raise my voice may it be only in praise. If I clench my fist, may it be only in prayer. If I make a demand, may it be only of myself.
I CHOOSE SELF-CONTROL…
I am a spiritual being. After this body is dead, my spirit will soar. I refuse to let what will not, rule the eternal. I will be drunk only by joy. I will be impassioned only by my faith. I will be influenced only by God. I will be taught only by Christ.
LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS AND SELF-CONTROL (see Galatians 5:22-23)
To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek His grace. And then, when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest with the “peace that passes all understanding.”

New “Life” Resolution
I smile about the fact that I fall in love with my daughter all over again each and every day. I see her sleeping and I am filled with the same huge amount of joy I was filled with that first time I held her.She makes me want to make every moment count.
I’ve never fallen into the New Year’s Resolution thing. Maybe because I think I will never see it through to accomplishment, maybe because there are always SO many things I want to resolve to change… I don’t know. But, it just so happens that something is stirring in my heart about Loving On Purpose and it has come at the turn of the New Year, so I’ve adopted it as an adaptation to the New Year’s Resolution.
This year I have chosen a New “Life” Resolution. My goal is to Love On Purpose. A lot has happened in the past few years. A lot has taken precious time away from loving and living. Energy has gone into trying to survive the blows from the past few years. Emotions spent in ways that I never want to feel again. But thankfully, the dust is settling, stability is coming, and LIFE is still here waiting to be lived. LIFE and the love I have in it – the love of family and friends! So I’m taking this time to get grounded and I am committing to loving the people in my life with PURPOSE.
I am excited! Care to join me? Happy New Year! Make it count!
1. I love you! There is nothing that will make me stop loving you. Nothing you could do or say or think will ever change that.
2. You are amazing! I look at you with wonder! Not just at what you can do, but who you are. There is no one like you. No one!
3. It’s all right to cry. People cry for all kinds of reasons: when they are hurt, sad, glad, or worried; when they are angry, afraid, or lonely. Big people cry too. I do.
4. You’ve made a mistake. That was wrong. People make mistakes. I do. Is it something we can fix? What can we do? It’s all over. You can start fresh. I know you are sorry. I forgive you.
5. You did the right thing. That was scary or hard. Even though it wasn’t easy, you did it. I am proud of you; you should be too.
6. I’m sorry. Forgive me. I made a mistake.
7. You can change your mind. It’s good to decide, but it is also fine to change.
8. What a great idea! You were really thinking! How did you come up with that? Tell me more. Your mind is clever!
9. That was kind. You did something helpful and thoughtful for that person. That must make you feel good inside. Thank you!
10. I have a surprise for you. It’s not your birthday. It’s for no reason at all. Just a surprise, a little one, but a surprise.
11. I can wait. We have time. You don’t have to hurry this time.
12. What would you like to do? It’s your turn to pick. You have great ideas. It’s important to follow your special interests.
13. Tell me about it. I’d like to hear more. And then what happened? I’ll listen.
14. I’m right here. I won’t leave without saying good-bye. I am watching you. I am listening to you.
15. Please and Thank You. These are important words. If I forget to use them, will you remind me?
17. Just try. A little bit. One taste, one step. You might like it. Let’s see. I’ll help you if you need it. I think you can do it.
18. I’ll help you. I heard you call me, here I am. How can I help you? If we both work together, we can get this done. I know you can do it by yourself, but I’m glad to help since you asked.

Scriptures to consider:
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.” Proverbs 31:30
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22
What is it about A Christmas Carol?

A Christmas Carol… of all the Christmas stories out there, this one has stood the test of time and is considered a classic. Have you seen the latest movie rendition? Jim Carrey makes a very convincing “Bah Humbug” Ebenezer Scrooge, doesn’t he? Or maybe you prefer the George C. Scott, Alastair Sim, or Donald Duck version.
What is it about this story that captures our souls?
At first blush, it would seem the theme of “second chances”. We all want to believe that we are not stuck where we are and that we will get another chance. A chance to do better. A chance to be better. A chance to change. A chance to be forgiven. A chance to make a new name and a new life for ourselves. Second chances are wonderful and they are certainly Biblical!
And yet…
I think that if we look closely enough, we will find that the theme of this undying story is truly one of “transformation”. For that is what is at the heart of all real change. True transformation births in us:
- A new perspective
- A new purpose to drive us
- A new motivation (reason to live)
But by what power can we see this happen in our own hearts? We do not often have four spirits visiting us on Christmas Eve. That is all good for old, rich Ebenezer. But, what about us? Where does our transformation come from?
I believe the answer lies in the first word of the one line anthem spoken by Tiny Tim, “God bless us, every one!”
The ability of the human spirit to change perspective so quickly and entirely finds its power in the Christmas story that began in a manger. In an instant God Almighty transformed Himself into human flesh in the form of a baby to bring a spiritual transformation to all of mankind. A remarkable change that many times is as sudden and complete as Ebenezer Scrooge. A transformation that frees us from the chains we have forged in our own lives.
When the Truth of God so apprehends us; When our eyes are opened and we finally see; When God’s love is applied to our hearts; When our soul knows the black stains of life have been wiped away and there is still time to live for the One who makes life worth living… then the transformation in us is forever and drastic.
What do you want to see changed in your life? Put yourself in Ebenezer’s shoes and make a time to tryst with the transforming God that will usher in the change you are longing for.
- God transformed a shepherd boy into a king
- God transformed a prostitute into a woman of renown faith
- God transformed an outcast leper into one clean and accepted
- God transforms ashes into beauty
- God transforms mourning into joy
- God transforms bondage into freedom
- God transforms madness into peace
It was also said of Ebenezer that he became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew (true transformation)… and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge.
May that be truly said of us! Let us echo what tiny Tim observed …
“God bless us (and transform us), Every One!”
May your transformation begin with the video below:

No Hope?
Are You Living With No Hope?
He is the God of redemption.
He is the God of HOPE!
Be Thankful!
- Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward
to? - Be thankful when you don’t know something. It gives you the opportunity to learn.
- Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.
- Be thankful for your limitations. They give you opportunities for improvement.
- Be thankful for each new challenge. It will build your strength and character.
- Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.
- Be thankful when you’re tired and weary. It means you’ve made a difference.
Taken from the Good News Journal
God, Help Us :)
A man was riding his Harley along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head… In a booming voice, the Lord said, “Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.”
The biker pulled over and said, “Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want.”
The Lord said, “Your request is materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things.”
“Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.”
The biker thought about it for a long time…
Finally, he said, “Lord, I wish that I, and all men, could understand our wives; I want to know how she feels inside, what she’s thinking, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing is wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy.”
The Lord replied, “You want two lanes or four on that bridge?”
Making Skid Marks
The Joy of Hitting the Brakes in Life:
We live in a busy world and lead the busiest lives of any other generation in all of history in spite of our modern day conveniences designed to take up less time and leave us more time for leisure. How do we slow down long enough to make our mark on the world? Which marks matter most? How much will it cost?
Humbled, today I found that I “made a skid mark”, in spite of myself. My nine year old son walked into the kitchen while I was sweeping. Something prompted me to lay aside my broom (quite unlike me) and look into his eyes. He had built yet another Lego robot creation and he wanted to show me and expound on all the cool things it could do… AGAIN. Smiling, I leaned against the counter and actually listened (as opposed to my habitual nodding and half-hearted affirmations).
As I looked at his creation I noticed my son’s eyes light up. I commented on the breastplate he had positioned on the front and the back, the sword, the shoe-like feet, and the shield. We spent 40 seconds talking about how it is just like the armor God provides for us as Christians to battle our enemies: the breastplate of right living, the sword which is our Bible, our shoes of peace, and our shield of faith. These grant us protection and victory. Both of which are very important to the heart of a boy.
I proudly handed his masterpiece back to him and I watched him bound away, chest raised and shoulders broader. It took all of 2 minutes from my “schedule” and in that moment the Lord spoke to my heart, “This is what I mean when I say, ‘Slow Down’. You just left a “skid mark” on your son’s self-esteem and spiritual development.” God stamped it, and it was good!
When someone like me, who takes life at lightening speed, slows down… skid marks happen. They can be beautiful, multi-colored, life-changing marks!
The place where the rubber meets the road is the most imperative place. Join me in slowing down fast enough so that we can make lasting marks on the world… stunning skid marks.

Want a “Peace”?
There are two awesome sides to peace that are available to us:
Peace with God: (Makes us in right relationship with Him)
“Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)
The peace of God: (Guards and guides)
“May the peace of God guard you and the God of peace guide you!” Phil 4:7, 9
Want a Peace in the Storm?
A fun story to illustrate this point is found in Mark 8:35-41
Jesus spent the whole day giving out (teaching and performing miracles) and still a crowd was gathering at the shore. He needed some respite, so He got into the boat with His disciples and shoved off to sea for some peace and quiet.
A storm, much like a mini-hurricane, came out of nowhere (common in the Sea of Galilee). The wind and waves began tossing this little boat like a child’s toy and filled it with water.
As you can imagine, the disciples are freaking out. But Jesus is at peace sleeping in the bow of the boat. Which shows that while the battle is raging around us, we can be at peace inside just like Jesus was.
How did Jesus deal with the storm? He said, “Peace, be still.” – In Greek, it literally means… Shhh! NOW, That is power! Power Shhhing. Just, “Shhh!” We often hear that God either calms the storm or He calms His child. He “Shhhes” us too. Comfort Shhhing… with a pat on the back and a holy hug pouring courage into our very souls.
It is faith building to realize that it doesn’t matter what the devil is throwing at us, we can have peace on the inside.
Susannah Wesley, mother of 19 children, found her place of peace by simply sitting in the middle of the kitchen and pulling her apron up over her head. Her children knew that when that happened no one was to disturb her. Where is your Apron Place of Peace? Mine is going for a walk… anywhere we can get alone and focus our minds on the God of peace. Find your place and go there often!
Meditate on these things and let peace fill your soul:
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
“Seek peace and pursue it.” (I Peter 3:11)
“Let the peace of God RULE in your hearts!” (Colossians 3:15)
“As far as it depends on you, live at peace with all men.” (Romans 12:18)
“The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)
One of my favorites… Isaiah 26:3 “God will keep her in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him, because she trusts in Him!”
Ways to Annoy People
- Leave the copy machine set to 99 copies, reduce 200%, extra dark, 17-inch paper.

- Specify that your drive-through order is “to go.”
- If you have a glass eye, tap on it occasionally with your pen while talking with others.
- Insist on keeping your car windshield wipers running in all weather conditions, “to keep them tuned up.”
- Reply to everything someone says with, “that’s what YOU think.”
- Practice making fax and modem noises.
- Make beeping noises when you back up.
- Finish all your sentences with the words, “in accordance with prophecy.”
- Signal that a conversation is over by clamping your hands over your ears.
- Adjust the tint on your TV so that all the people are green, and insist to others that you “like it that way.”
- Staple papers in the middle of the page.
- Publicly investigate just how slowly you can make a “croaking” noise.
- Honk and wave to strangers.
- Decline to be seated at a restaurant, and simply eat the complimentary mints by the cash register.
- TYPE ONLY IN UPPERCASE.
- type only in lowercase.
- dont use any punctuation either
- Buy a large quantity of orange traffic cones and reroute entire streets.
- Repeat the following conversation a dozen times: “Do you hear that?” “What?” “Never mind, it’s gone now.”
- As much as possible, skip rather than walk.
- Try playing the William Tell Overture by tapping on the bottom of your chin. When nearly done, announce, “No, wait — I messed it up.” Then repeat.
- Ask people what gender they are.
- While making presentations, occasionally bob your head like a parakeet.
- Sit in your front yard pointing a hair dryer at passing cars to see if they slow down.
- Sing along at the opera.
- Go to a poetry recital and ask why each poem doesn’t rhyme.
- Ask your co-workers mysterious questions, then scribble their answers in a notebook and mutter something about “psychological profiles.”
- Tell your friends that you can’t attend their party, five days prior to the event, because you’re “not in the mood.”
When Mountains Fall
“God is our Refuge and Strength, a Helper who is always found in times of trouble. Therefore we will not be afraid, though the earth trembles and the mountains topple into the depths of the seas, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with its turmoil.” Psalm 46:1-3
Wow, that paints quite a picture in my mind! I see myself standing at the epicenter of an earthquake watching the mountains crumble and the waters rage all around me. Hearing the cries and seeing the panic of those around me, and yet, I am NOT afraid. Why? Because God is my Refuge, my Hiding Place, My Rock, and my secure footing. Though I cannot see Him, He is sheltering me in the shadow of His wings. It is in this place I can be strong, secure, and unafraid even as all of life’s circumstances swell and quake around me.
It reminds me of a woman, long ago, in Jericho. She had heard of the Living God for the first time. She had heard of His mighty power and His loving care. And His people were marching toward her city to destroy it which brought great fear to this pagan nation. Rahab chose to put her faith in this One True God. Though war was at the gate and her home was literally built suspended between the city walls, her faith stood fast as she watched Joshua and his army march around the city. Her faith held firm as she heard the trumpets blast. Her faith saved her as she took Refuge in the Living God and found strength to endure as the walls literally fell down around her while God literally held her home safe and secure.
Do you ever feel like the walls of your life are collapsing all around you? Has God ever asked you to stand fast even when it seems impossible? Is your faith in God being tested because of the trouble your eyes see as the ground beneath your feet seems begins to tremble? Does it sometimes seem as though the mountains of your circumstances are quaking? Is the sea roaring so loudly that you cannot even hear His voice? Look to Him!
Put your trust in The One who made the mountains and the seas. He causes the mountains to bow down and commands the seas to be quiet and they obey. And the cool thing is that when He chooses not to calm your circumstances He will hold you so close that you cannot even sense the raging. He will give you the strength to climb your mountains and ride the waves of the sea to the safety of the other side. Do not fear. Hold fast to your faith. He is your Refuge, your Strength, and your Helper. He is always with you!
Take courage, look up, your feet are secure.

How Would You Define Humility?
I’m an Idiot! I’m No Good!
Is that how you would define humility?
How can we define humility? What reference point do we have?
Christ is the perfect definition of humility.
“…He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”-Philippins 2:8
“..but emptied Himself taking on the form of a bond-servant…”-Philippians 2:7
First things first. Let’s talk about what humility is not.
- Humility is not about beating yourself up
- Humility is not seeing yourself as the scum of the earth
Ok, now that we got that out of the way, let’s talk about what humility is. It might surprise you.
Humility Is…
Humility is the ultimate expression of Christ in human form. It is Christ coming to earth where He laid down His rights, His life, and His comfort for the betterment of mankind.
How Did Christ Show Humility?
- He laid down His rights and emptied Himself
- He laid down His glory
- He laid down His comfort
- He laid down His home
- He laid down His will
- He laid down His life
What is Humility?
- Emptying ourselves
- Laying down our lives
- Fully depending on the Lord
- Fully caught up in the will of the Father
- Seeking to glorify God. If our number one goal is to glorify the Lord, everything else will fall into place.
- Humility is being more concerned with what God wants to do through you than what we want to do.
Christ showed humility by laying down everything and fully depending on the Father.
He was caught up in doing God’s will and not His own.
What is it in your life that you need to lay down?
What is it in your life that you need to fully depend on the Father for?
Ok, His Chicks, here is your challenge…let’s walk in greater humility this week.
Ask the Lord God of Heaven what it is in your life that needs to be laid down. What is it that you need to give up for the betterment of others?
This could be one of the hardest, yet most fulfilling things we do!
Life in the Spirit is an exchange. What we lay down, He will replace with something better. It may take you by surprise, but the exchange is glorious!
Frodo and Sam on Perseverance
Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam: There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.
(excerpt from J.R.R. Tolkien’s,
The Return of the King)
This reminds me of Romans 8:18-25, where Paul is reflecting on his own suffering and the world’s bondage of corruption. But, what WE have to hold onto is bigger than any good we may find in this world… Paul reveals that we eagerly await a much greater good… a real hope! A hope that is as secure as a promise.
There is hope in Christ…
• Hope that we will overcome the darkness in our own lives.
• Hope that the chains of bondage that hold us will be loosed.
• Hope that the enemy will soon be crushed under our feet.
• Hope that all things work out for good to those who Love God.
• Hope that we will be stronger. We will be changed.
• Hope that we can make a difference in this world for the good.
• Hope that our tears and trials are not wasted.
• Hope that joy will come in the morning.
• Hope that there is something better.
• Hope that our faith will stand the test and we will persevere.
This hope is the very anchor of our souls…
“This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.”
Hebrews 6:19
Let us not be the ones who turn back! Determine not to give up, give out, or give in. Let’s leave a legacy of a courageous journey for our children’s children.
“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment.”
Romans 5:2-5
